Sharing Reports - November/December - 2019

On Line Beta

In August we had a perfect summertime get together, an Ice Cream Social, we all enjoyed a no calorie flavor and then shared our favorite flavor & brand.

We also learned so much touring Yellowstone National Park.  Many shared their pictures & memories of a fun time.

In Sept that learning continued with a trip to Alaska.  Many were able to share their "Dream Come True" vacation with all Alaska has to offer from the parks, museums, mountains, wild life & magnificent train ride.

We also continued a theme to "Dream Big, Be Yourself & Remember to Sparkle" & each day that week did a special tour such as waterfalls/gorges or shared a thought such as what would you do if you won a Million Dollars?

In Oct our fun time was "Up, Up & Away" in a hot air balloon ride and many thoughts were shared--the fun, the fear & the beauty.

The Power of The Dream continued with sisters sharing their Dreams of various seasons of their life and goodness, what a variety of Dreams we learned about.

In addition to programs & socials, we loved getting new recipes or pictures of a new craft.  We also shared our family ups & downs, health concerns or weather reports across the US & Canada.  Sometimes just sharing with each other lightens our load.

On a very sad note, we lost 2 sisters, Elaine S & Donna S and our sister Nita lost her son.

At this time, Online Beta Sisters are gearing up for the Holiday Season and wishing you all the very Best Holiday Season and a wonderful year in 2020.  Remember when many thought everything would stop when we went from 1999 to 2000 and here it is 20 yrs later and going faster than ever!!

On Line Eta

Two members received progression rituals during October.  Members are busy traveling and getting ready for the holidays.  They truly enjoyed the tea program as sisters do so enjoy their tea time.

The chapter is staying with Yahoo for the time being.  Google groups is a consideration as the chapter already has a facebook page and instagram just for social posting.

The members of OLETA wish everyone a happy and safe holiday season.

Respectfully submitted,

Karen, Eta Rep

On Line Theta

Theta like all of the other on line chapters that use yahoo groups has had to make some decisions due to the change in yahoo groups.  Yahoo groups is not going away just a lot of changes such as text only emails.  Our vice president tried to post our roster today and Yahoo groups would not accept her email.  I was able to post a poll today. We have found that Facebook comes closest to fitting our needs as we like to post pictures, links, etc.

Currently, we are planning our Holiday celebrations - a tea and a gift exchange for Theta only.  Not part of the big on line Holiday Exchange that Karen and Charity administer each year.  We are submitting a cookie or scone recipe for our tea.  These recipes will be compiled in our holiday cookbook.  Please let us know if you would like an email copy.

Thank heavens we haven't had a disaster hit that affected any of our sisters.  The California fires have come close but all of our member appear to be safe.

We wish everybody a wonderful Thanksgiving, Hanukah, and Christmas.

hugs, Arlene Fox president of on line Theta

On Line Psi

Chapter Name:  On Line Psi

Kathy gave her Program on Monsoons.  It is something the residents of Arizona experience once a year.  It is one of our seasons.  As early as June 15 and sometimes into late September, Arizona has their monsoon season.  During this time the normally dry heat becomes a very humid heat.   Residents watch the weather reports, skies, and warnings.  I receive weather warnings on my phone.  I need to know if there is an excessive heat day (last one, the heat rose to 115), dust warning, thunderstorm warning, or flood warning.  These all can happen in one day.  Dust storms, Flooding and Thunder storms are all a part of the monsoon season.

Kathy shared a Recipe she found while reading about the Arizona Dairy farmers.  Cheddar and Mushroom Breakfast Squares,  One that can be made ahead, covered with foil and refrigerated for 8-10 hours before baking.  Sounds really good.

Kathy shared this book for her Book Review:  The book I would like to introduce you to is:  To the Bone by Jeff Carson.  This is the seventh book in his series about lawman David Wolf.  You follow him through a case of murder and baffling clues.  The setting is in the rocky, scorched earth of northwest Colorado and a current archeological dig.

Social:  Kathy had us all get on the Metro Light Rail to downtown Phoenix. Where we enjoyed a day of Science.  You can see many sites such as Arizona State University, Chase Stadium, and much more.  To end the day lets walk a couple of block to the Hard Rock Café to enjoy a little food and musical décor and visit and compare notes.    What a fun and interesting social!

September Report

Service:  Kathy S. asked us keep clicking the free sites. This month I would like to challenge each of you to do something different -- do a random act of kindness to a stranger or to a friend when not expected.  Example:  Open a door for another.  Leave a book at the airport, bus station, etc with a note that it is free to who would like it.  Volunteer at a school, library, or …..?  Use your imaginations.  Let us know what you did when you sign in next month.

Carole V. posted the September 2019 Birthdays, Anniversary & Milestones

Carole V. posted her program on the Didgeridoo and explained what it was.

The Didgeridoo is a wooden WIND instrument thought to have originated in Arnhem Land, Northern Territory, Australia.  Although some people put it i! n the BRASS instrument category such as a trumpet. She also posted a You Tube video with sound so we could hear how this instrument sounded when played. It is sometimes described as a natural wooden trumpet or "drone pipe".

Researchers have suggested it may be the world's oldest musical instrument.  Oldest cave paintings were dated 3000 to 5000 years old. It was traditionally used as an accompaniment along with chants, singers with Bilma (Tapping sticks) and dancers, often in ceremonies.

Carole also posted two recipes, one BLUEBERRY STRAWBERRY SMOOTHIE BOWL which is thick enough to eat with a spoon and keeps you feeling full longer. It’s made with Greek yogurt, fresh blueberries, strawberries, blueberry or pomegranate juice, avocado, ice cubes and slivered almonds. Blend all until smooth.  Sounds Yummy!

Also, a SHOWER BOMB RECIPE using essential  oils for a calming soothing effect.  To use, place one or two tablets in the back of your shower. (For best results, find a spot away from the direct flow of water).  Allow tablets to dissolve gradually and release the calming aroma of the essential oil.

Carole’s book review was on: Our Souls at Night  by  Kent Haruf  A spare, eloquent, bittersweet yet inspiring story of a man and a woman who, in advanced age, come together to wrestle with the events of their lives and their hopes for the imminent future.  Sounds like a very interesting read.

Beverly invited us all to the Social at her home for a wonderful luncheon consisting of Pancit (a Filipino dish consisting of rice noodles with chopped onions, garlic, diced cooked chicken breast, cabbage, snow peas, carrots, and soy sauce. Plus wedges of lemon to add a slight zip to the Pancit.  One of her former girlfriends/roommates, back when she was still single, taught her how to cook it and Lumpia).  But today her dear husband made today's Lumpia as well as the sweet and sour sauce which we dip our Lumpia into.

For dessert, an all American fare. Ice Cream Sundaes. Dishes of sliced bananas, pineapple tidbits, crushed nuts, mini marshmallows, chopped berries, chocolate chips, brownie pieces, candy bar pieces, shredded coconut, chopped pretzels and whipped cream! I also have chocolate syrup, caramel syrup, and even hot fudge. Grab a bowl and add as many sliced bananas as you wish. There's a huge tub of Neapolitan ice cream and add however many scoops of ice cream as your heart desires.  Hmmm hard to decide which toppings I want on my Sundae, but definitely want hot fudge on top!

After lunch we have tables set up for the games, Mexican Train, LCR or Skip-Bo.  Watch out for Carolyn, she’s a whiz at Skip-Bo. What a delightful afternoon of fun, laughter and friendship! Thank you Beverly.

October Report

Kathy S. reported she received notification from International that OLP was rated a Three Star Chapter for last year.

Marcia H. reported on the On Line chapter and Cyber Council Christmas Exchange.

Service:  Kathy S.  Ladies please continue clicking the free sites we have always supported.  How did the acts of random kindness go?  Did  you see many opportunities to add to it?  I challenge you to find another act of kindness for the month of October.

Carole V. posted: the OCTOBER BIRTHDAYS,ANNIVERSARIES & MILESTONES

Krissie posted her Book Review on Lennon in America by Geoffrey Giuliano.  This book supposedly talked about things that happened to John Lennon from 1971-1980, based in part on his diaries.

Krissie posted her Recipe for Arkansas Green Beans and Bacon.  Sounds really good.

Cheryl’s Program was "Information on the Gateway Arch."  The Gateway Arch is a 630-foot (192 m) monument in St. Louis, Missouri, United States. Clad in stainless steel and built in the form of a weighted catenary arch, it is the world's tallest arch, the tallest man-made monument in the Western Hemisphere, and Missouri's tallest accessible building. It takes its name from the city's role as the “Gateway to the West” during the westward expansion of the United States in the 19th century. The Gateway Arch didn't open to the public until June 1967, it was on Oct. 28, 1965 when the final piece of the 630-foot-tall monument was placed in the very top. Construction on the freestanding, stainless-steel arch began in 1963 and cost about $13 million to build.  Cheryl’s son proposed to his wife at the top of the Arch.  I am sure it is a memory they will both cherish.  Very interesting.

Our Social for the month was hosted by Rose who gave us an invitation to a Pumpkin Carving event.  She posted several you tube videos on how to carve pumpkins, and then we were asked to vote on the ones we liked the best.  Some of the carvings were very professional and some very scary.

And now we are getting ready for Thanksgiving and the Holidays!

Respectfully Submitted,

Ann

Recording Secretary
