President's Report

I want to give a special “Shout Out” to Susan Robinson who keeps up with our Yahoo Group Site in posting Polls, recording attendance, updating our data, and for her never-ending patience and helpfulness in helping our members with their problems answering the polls and/or accessing the group site.

Also I want to give a special “Shout Out” to Hilda who has served us many ways in OLD’s history.  Particularly for all her Service Reports which she chose to carry out by sharing things that were important for us to know about.

Service

September

Sisters, with all of the disasters currently facing the North American continent and the Caribbean, please do what you can to help.  We are not all able to go directly to the scenes to help out but you might assist with collecting clothing and housewares to send. Perhaps your church is spearheading a drive.  Check with them to contribute or to help.  If you are close enough, offer food or drink to those in destress and those who are lending a hand.  Even a few batches of cookies or some cocoa will brighten someone’s day and warm someone’s hear..  Diapers and feminine products are always needed and often forgotten.  There are a couple of websites set up for this purpose:

For diapers: http://texasdiaperbank.org

My daughter, Cris has arranged for a feminine product site at:   https://kissmytulle.com/HelpforHarvey

You donate and they will ship direct.  If you know of other sites do share with us.

The future is in our hands and we can band together to offer love, support and needed items.  Remember, we are known by our actions.  We can show that we care even in these small ways.  The hurricanes, flooding and fires surround us but our love can still shine through.

October

Sisters,  Service to our fellow beings comes in many shapes.  Some of us can afford to donate to worthy causes but others feel sad that they cannot afford to help.  We all can find a way to bless those around us.  Many school districts have a service opportunity for men and women of any age or affluence.  It would require an hour or two once a week but usually the volunteer can choose the time.  Ask at a local school if you can come in and read to or listen to students.  Many schools have reading programs set up especially for guests to come and work with the kids.  We can’t all do magic tricks to entertain the little ones but we each can awaken the awe in a young person’s heart when they first hear a wonderful story.  Whereas, some kids are so proud that they have someone to show off their new developed skill of reading.  Be that one person and you will reap many rewards.

Membership

Only 17 were present  for our September meeting.  I really think many of you may be reading the minutes, but are not marking your presence on the poll.

Please let us know that you are still with us by acknowledging that you have read the meeting by posting your attendance via the poll.  Having almost half of our membership (14 of 31) not marking their  attendance is not good.

Yearbooks were sent out with members in pictures at the October meeting.  Jennifer and Ashley are both expecting babies in 2018.  Lucy's sister is ill and needs our prayers.  Judy and daughter are about to do another cruise.  Sisters are excited about the Holiday Exchange.  Dee did a wonderful program on the history of Halloween.  Sisters told of their Halloween experiences.  We had another guest visit our chapter for a land chapter make-up meeting.  Karen I.  keeps the regulars on file, or they end of joining the chapter if it is more than one visit.

We want to wish Canadians a belated Happy Thanksgiving and US sisters a Happy Thanksgiving and Merry Christmas and Happy Holidays to all.  Whoopi Goldberg said last night on Stephen Colbert that "Happy Holidays covers all religious practices."

We have one member progressing to Exemplar very soon.  Joanie will be progressing.

Our group is getting smaller. We have had 2 members resigning the last few months. We have 7 members now. 5 full members and 2 virtual members.

If anyone knows of anyone looking to join an online chapter, please let me know.

Also, I would like to ask how do you keep members involved in your online chapters?  It seems members long in, and then disappear.  Any suggestions?

Service-Suggested to volunteer within our own communities, especially at this time of year.

Social-Our socials take us all over to interesting places. We learn a lot of each other's home areas and vacation spots.

Cheers,

Dora

Here it is November---I love this month.  As always, I am always thankful for my life & blessings & this is a time to really count those blessings!!

In OLB our Sept program was about Grandparents with lots of sharing of our grandparents, being grandparents or those we think of as grandparents.  It was a time of lots of sharing as we all traveled down Memory Lane.

our Sept social was an old fashioned Barn Dance.  We kicked up our heels, ate way too much & had a good time

The Oct program was anything & everything that one might know or want to know about Pumpkins.  Lots of fun & great recipes were shared.  Most were one extreme or other--you really love it or you really, really don't at all.

of course, lots of chatter & some service projects were also going on.

One thing I love is meeting Sisters Face to Face. Madonna from Norfolk, Cherie from Cleveland area & I along with Terry & Larry met in Chattanooga for lunch.  the guys went to a cycle place & us gals went to the mall & had a great time.  Evelyn was going to join us but could not this time.

I always look forward to sharing reports!!

Wishing you all a Blessed Thanksgiving season!

Hugs,

Sandy, Madonna & Dianne in OLB

For our September program, Judy shared quotes about tomorrow.  One example:  “Tomorrow is promised to no one.” - Clint Eastwood.  Our sisters sharing their favorite quotes about tomorrow.  One of my favorites is from the Bible (Matthew 6:34):  Therefore do not worry about tomorrow for tomorrow will worry about itself.  Each day has enough trouble of its own.

Our October program was a virtual trip to St. Petersburg, Russia where we visited Catherine Palace.  This was the summer home of Catherine the Great.  We learned of the palace history and some of the foods that were served.  We all had a wonderful time!

Plans have begun for our chapter’s reunion next year!  We will be gathering the weekend of April 19-22 in Hampton/Yorktown Virginia.  We have two sisters that live 15 miles apart and so we will be visiting that area.  We are all looking forward to meeting again in person!

As this year comes to a close and the holidays are upon us, all our sisters at OLS wish you all a blessed Thanksgiving and a very Merry Christmas!  May you all create new and happy memories!

Beta hugs,

Chris

Vice President Ann welcomed Karen D. back.  Also Carolyn has decided to join our chapter.

Book of Beta Sigma Phi:  The wearing of Beta Sigma Phi jewelry was reviewed.

Social:  Ann took us on the scariest adventure at Knott's Berry Farm.  I hope we all made it back safely and found the great buffet.  Wow!

Recipe:  Beverly shared a new butternut and sweet potato casserole recipe.  Hmmm sounds yummy.

Program:  Ann gave her program on the birth of Beta Sigma Phi.  Oh the memories.  Look at us now.

Beta Hugs,
