Cyber Council News

September BSP Cyber Council question of the month was: Tell Us About What City You Are Living In.

We learned  and discovered many interesting things about each other.  Member Val shared one about our new Cyber Council Rep, Joanne, from Lancaster, England  who shared some history and facts, and that she was just married in April, 2016.

On a sad note:  Cheri, our Cyber Council President recently  lost her husband whom she fondly called "Bear," to sudden stroke attacks, resulting in further complications.  Please send healing thoughts of comfort her way.

President Report

Sept.

I had a nice visit with Bobbi while she was home to Buffalo. It is always a pleasure to get together and if any other members are up/down this way, my door is always open.

We will continue to monitor the way in which our poll votes to mark our attendance are recorded on the Yahoo site.  A Vice President, Leslie, was appointed to that position for the remaining year.

Last weekend was the Canadian Thanksgiving. I hope our Canadian sisters had a great weekend with their families /friends. Hopefully we all didn't eat too much.

The amount of food we waste as a society is astonishing.  I stumbled across tips to get us thinking differently about how we shop and how we store our food.  At the Store: Shop smart, Buy exactly what you need, Be realistic, Buy funny-looking produce, Have a Plan B to substitute.

At Home: Practice FIFO. It stands for First In, First Out, Monitor what you throw away, Take stock,  Eat leftovers, Use it all,  Store better, Repurpose leftovers scraps, Check the fridge, Preserve produce, Donate what you won’t use, Compost it.  At Mealtime: Reducing portion sizes reduces food waste, Split the dish,Take home leftovers, Share as a gift, Go trayless, Educate other people.

Koffee Klatch

Sept. This year's theme, as we all know, is "We put our heart in it. . ." That made me start thinking about all of you and your many interests besides Beta Sigma Phi. . So, this month we will discuss our hobbies.

1. What is your hobby?

2. How did you get started? By whom and when? And, how long have you been doing it?

3. Describe your involvement in activities involving your hobby.

4. What is the one thing you would want someone else to know about your hobby that they might not know?

Oct.

A short explanation was given about the prominent Canadian holidays, about customs and decorating for these holidays.  The following questions were discussed:

So girls - how many of you "Put your Hearts Into It" .

1.  When you were growing up - did your family celebrate these holidays - and decorate ?

2.  Do you decorate your home?

3.  If yes - how extensively do you decorate?

4.  Does your country have a celebration to celebrate it's birth as a nation ?

Some of you may have heard that Yahoo Groups was taken over by Verizon. At the moment that doesn't mean any changes for us but it could in the future.  I will be keeping up with that change so if we have to move to a different location I will have some knowledge. I will be making copies of important files and databases so we don't have to reinvent the wheel if at some point we do need to make a change. I will keep you updated as I hear things.  Susan, List Moderator

First let me say on behalf of online kappa how sorry we are to hear about Cherie's husband, Bear, passing.

We had our usual chapter meeting in October and will be having our monthly meeting next weekend. Several sisters shared pictures of children and grandchildren preparing for Halloween, an exciting time for many kids. We learned a bit about some traditions related to Halloween at our last meeting. As with many of your chapters, we continue to have a couple members with illnesses. One member was in a car accident and seems to be recuperating from it; another had to have another surgery on her back.

We have really tried to be extra supportive to one another, this year we are stated doing the special sister exchange again, which has been good to know a sister is taking time to send a card or note.  We have stayed away from political items but one can't help but pray for whomever becomes the next president of the USA. We had a program about the election process, very educational.

Our thoughts go out to all sisters dealing with illness, family issues and the upcoming holidays which can be fun for some and sad for others.

Be well all,

Mary,  OLPsi Cyber Council Rep

Dora presented a program on the Origin of Halloween.
The Service Chair Laura requested that due to the distance between us, each member should give at least one hour a month to volunteer for a worthy cause. This is a good opportunity to share Beta Sigma Phi with others. Our Special Sister Chair suggested that we talk to our special sister about our hobbies. We then discussed books that we are reading.  Wendy's social was "held" at the Kansas City BSP Convention.  Our next meeting is November 6th.

  Sincerely,

Joanie, Online Upsilon

Our sister Cathy passed away and it was very sad news. She will be missed by everyone. Cathy was our webmaster and handle the technical area of OLB. Our Vice President Susan, did a beautiful memorial to honor Cathy. Sisters shared pictures and memories of her.

Our Vice President also has been busy welcoming visitors, she had Master ritual for Susan, pledge ritual for new member Tracy.

The program in September was on "Love at first sight" and October program we picked one person that we would like to spend one hour with and we shared who that person was and the questions we would ask them.

Our social in September was a white dinner party, held in Paris. We traveled to Scotland in October and visited ten famous castles.

Our service committee, gave us a Random act of kindness challenge and posted websites that had different ideas for the RAK.

Historian committee had a picture of the pin that was designed for our chapter with our motto, "Sisters with the key to friendship".

Recipe committee shared delicious recipes and also a craft item for the month.

Our Executive board has worked diligently, having Special meeting to determine the continuation of our website, we have had two ballots that were voted on. They are excellent in keeping our chapter running smoothly.

Hugs,

Madonna
