On Line Psi

On Line Psi had a wonderful Beginning Day.  President Ann M had us gathered for Beginning Day in the early afternoon on a beautiful day too, for tea sandwiches fruits and desserts along with plenty of punch, lemonade, water and more.  The friendships of the chapter members is all wonderful.

We had member Krissie E escorted to the front of the room for her Preceptor Degree Ritual. This Ritual is one of the most beautiful Rituals.  I personally really love it.  But then I'm predigest, as I love all my Forever Friends/Sisters.  So Congratulations to Krissie for reaching the next degree and enjoying all of her sisters in Beta Sigma Phi.

After the congratulations we had more desserts and coffee, tea, etc. Already everyone is getting excited for our sorority year to begin.

I am thy sister,

Marcia H ,604969

July Recap:

On Line Psi met on July 9th with all members present and no guests.

Courtesies:  Carole V.  The Birthdays, Anniversaries, and Milestones for the month were posted.

Book of Beta Sigma Phi:  Carole V.  Reviewed Beta Sigma Phi Parliamentary Procedure.

Carole V. gave her book review on “Lillian Boxfish Take A Walk” by Kathleen Rooney, about the life of a very influential woman in New York.

Rose K. took us on a fantastic social with a tour of the Statue of Liberty and Ellis Island.  Since it was the Fourth of July we also enjoyed the evenings fireworks display.

Carole V. gave her program on the Fourth of July’s history and little know facts and explained that in her family July 4 was always a big thing.  Not only was it during the summer so it was great weather for family picnics and or reunions, but July 2nd was her Mother’s birthday.  So there was always some surprise for her Mother.  On her 80th they arranged for a hot air balloon ride.  When she turned 83, she had two birthdays as they had gone on a trip to Australia and actually returned to the USA on her birthday, so with the international dateline, she had her birthday in Australia and once again in Hawaii.  One of her birthdays was a cruise on a paddleboat down the Mississippi River while watching fireworks from the river in St. Louis, MO. at the Arch.  It was always fun trying to come up with different things for her, as she was  always very adventurous.

Rose K. shared her favorite blender fruit drink recipe she got from “Mr. Food”.

During the July Meeting we shared Cyber Council’s suggestion of a gathering and received many comments that it would be fun to get together…but depending on the time of year and where it would be held would determine how many would be able to attend.

August Recap:

On Line Psi met on August 13th with all members present and again no guests.

Vice-President: Cheryl K. did send invitations to three prospective members but only heard back from one, that was interested in another chapter.  No response from the other two.

Courtesies: Carole V. announced the birthdays, anniversaries and chapter Milestones for the month of August.

Reviewed Beta Sigma Phi Group Insurance Programs in the book of Beta Sigma Phi.

Lib M. took us on a wonderful trip on the Buttahatchee Barn Quilt Trail in Mississippi as both our Social and Program for the month.  A BARN QUILT IS A LARGE PIECE OF WOOD THAT IS PAINTED TO LOOK LIKE A QUILT BLOCK. Even though the name implies that an entire quilt is painted onto the wood, it generally is only a single quilt block. The size of the squares vary, but usually, they measure 8 feet. After they are painted, these blocks are hung on the exterior of a barn, house, garage or other building.  A quilt trail consists of many barn quilts that are mapped together and visited. Those following along the trail receive a map with all of the locations marked, and viewers drive through the countryside to see all of the blocks. Today there are quilt trails all over the United States. A wide variety of people have created them, including quilt guilds, schools, churches, and 4-H clubs.

Lib also led us on a discussion of a book by Lori Copeland called the “Mother of Prevention”.  Then she shared her recipe of Penne Pasta Bake which sounded yummy and could be made ahead and frozen for use later.

Respectfully Submitted,

Ann Matney, President

“Call me Patches"

In choosing a topic "A Quilt of Friendship" was on my mind and I said to myself, think outside of the box. Mr. M came into my workplace and I know he was going though some cancer treatment but then he was talking about skin grafts and a piece from here and a piece from there to repair the damage the cancer has caused him. I said to myself he's like a patchwork quilt, and so I begin  Questions about skin grafts asked Have you or anyone you know gone through the skin grafting process? Success or Fail?

Would your Insurance Company pay for skin grafting if you needed it?

Our Changing World

Technology has changed our lives forever through various ways. - It has changed our day-to-day life in all aspects.  It has made some benefits to our life as well as disadvantages to our life. The development of technology has led to so many mind-blowing discoveries, better facilities, and better luxuries, but at the same time has drastically changed our daily lives in these ways: virual chats, learning systems, reading books, everything with a click, and quality time. Questions:  I would like each member to just share a bit of how your life was when you were growing up - and the pros and cons that you see in our life style in the present day.  What steps have you taken to ensure that when your family gets together - the time is spent visiting - not  with some totally distracted by their cell phone?

Service

July

Reverse Mortgage Disasters—It can leave you homeless, your name is not on the loan, you did not plan for a long retirement, and develop significant health problems.

August

STOP ATM THIEVES from stealing your money.   Ever wonder if that automatic teller machine (ATM) you just used is safe?  Crooks sometimes tamper with them to steal your debit card bank account  information.  Be wary of machines that: are privately owned. Try to use only ATMs owned by your bank.  Have parts on their front that look loose, crooked or broken.  Crooks may have tampered with them.  Look dirty or beaten up. Give you unusual instructions, like asking you to enter your PIN number twice.   Are outdoors.  Indoor machines are hardier to tamper with.  The more bustling the location, the better.

Membership

I did send out 2 invitations from names gleaned from International but have not received any responses.

Greeting Cyber Council Sisters.   I'm a return New-Bee to the BSP Cyber Council.  It's great to be back.

The Sisters of Online Kappa socialize with each other through our emails of new news, called a monthly chatter note or through responses to each other of new things or follow up pieces of news that happens in our lives.  The socializing starts with the log-in at the beginning of our monthly meeting.  Along with our personal log-in, we type a "welcome" to a guest that is joining us.  Each meeting has a Social along with a Program.  The Social is a Virtual Visionary of a place or an activity we are doing together, ie: visiting a fall craft fair and having lunch.  The greatest socializing in our online chapter is the spontaneous flow of responses like you would have in a face-to-face conversation.  Comments like: "You 're kidding" , "WOW, that is incredible" ,  "Oh heaves no, that's not for me" ,  "Darling picture.  Thanks for sharing the moment" .  The examples can be endless, but I'm sure you get the idea.

I look forward to learning how the rest of you define and practice online chapter socializing.

Bonnie,  Online Kappa

On Line Theta

On Line Theta celebrated Beginning Day for two days in Boston.  We flew Fox Airlines with our president's brother as our pilot.  He is a retired Delta pilot.  We toured the zoo followed by dinner at the Union Oyster House, established in 1826.  Since we will be having our Beginning Day tea while we are in Boston, we did coloring sheets of tea 'things' while on our flight.  The next day, we took one of the jump on jump off buses to tour Boston.  That evening we flew home after a wonderful stay in Boston.  For our souvenir, we made a cookbook of our 'tea' recipes.  Anybody want a copy of our cookbook?

respectfully submitted, Arlene, president of On Line Theta
