Sharing Reports - Sept/Oct - 2015

On Line Theta

In July, we had 2 members visit us. Our new and reorganized web page for the chapter is continuing to be worked on and we will see an updated version soon.
We have many members with health challenges at the present time.  In August, Arlene fell in her kitchen and is continuing to heal at a care facility. Dan (a chapter Envoy member) provides us almost daily updates on her progress.
The weather for all of us has been very hot and we are glad to see Fall come to many parts of the country which will bring relief from the heat. It’s hard to believe that September is already here and soon it will be the holiday season.

On Line Omicron

We have had 2 new baby announcements!
Sunni & Chris Valvaneda will be having a Bouncing Baby Boy (Frederick) in December!!!!
Serena Taylor announced she is also expecting in early 2016!!!! Alistair Weida is now Alistair Kozenko as she and Jonathan tied the knot on a snowy, beautiful March afternoon.
We have a new member, Mandy; she is a newlywed music teacher.

We have had a great few months at Online Omicron!!!

On Line Beta

Sisters:

Online Beta has been very busy we had our Beginning Day for the chapter.  With lots of fun with sharing at that as well.  It was national Joke Day so we had lot of jokes and comedians as part of the program.  We also had a program on Lakes that many of us had visited  and sharing our time spent at lakes.

Julia and her grandson collected info from each chapter sister so we now have a OLB members Directory.  It has pictures of each member along with an address and phone number for each of us.  It’s really very special.

We had the sad news of the passing of one of our newer sisters, Nancy Riley was recently passed.  Always a difficult thing when we have a sister who is no longer with us.

Many of our members have made reservations to attend the BSP convention next year so there is much talk about that as well.

On Line Kappa

Online Kappa had a wonderful Beginning Day Social, hosted by Karen, our president, at her home. We enjoyed the cool breeze while sitting on her patio, where we enjoyed fresh lemonade, sweet tea or a combination of both, which I learned is called an Arnold Palmer. There were platters of veggies and fresh fruit along with buffalo chicken dip with corn chips and a delicious variety of tea sandwiches of egg salad, watercress, cucumber and chicken salad.

We have several members who have been dealing with health issues themselves or within their families but all seem to be on the mend. Also several have requested prayers. We are looking forward to a wonderful new sorority year!!!

Have a wonderful Labor Day weekend.

President Report My 75th birthday celebrations have been many and varied and all most enjoyable. They were made all the more special by the good wishes conveyed by sisters in this OLD chapter. Thank you, very much, for taking the time to send all those good wishes.  Val

Programs August The word FOREVER was examined in our International theme this year of  "Your Forever Friends."  These questions were asked of members:  Would we want to live forever?  Would you want to be mortal – but have an extended lifespan?  So what repercussions do you see to Forever Friends? This brought up some interesting thoughts and answers on our human mortality for ourselves as well as our species.

September Following on with the theme "Forever Friends, I am looking at this in a different way, friends forever can also take into account our pets no matter what they are, and some people have some very strange pets, but the extraordinary bonds that humans have with animals speaks to our needs of friendship with animals.  Share some stories about your personal relationship with animals.

Service July For some people, clocking up an hour of exercise every day isn’t always possible. The good news is you’re probably doing more exercise each day than you realize, such as these: standing in line, grocery shopping, house cleaning and yard work, even  hot and cold temperatures effect how much energy our bodies expend.

August I found this very interesting as I love trees and it would be delightful to know that I could leave one for many to enjoy. We come from the earth, so it seems only natural to eventually return to it.  As an alternative to the traditional coffin burial, the designers at Estudimoline in Spain have developed the Bios Urn – a fully biodegradable urn designed to convert you into a tree after life.  Read more at https://urnabios.com/

Membership Emails have been sent to 6 new contacts with the return of one interest but she decided not to join.  International is to be contacted about the lack of information as to where the contact person resides.  Val has made another contact through her daughter in-law, but no reply has been currently received.

Socials None for the past 2 months, but have a chairman working on developing a schedule for coming year.

Book Club We schedule book presentations every other month so each member who wishes to participate has plenty of time to secure the book and read it since some of our books are published in other countries of Canada or Australia.  Our book for July/August was "The Washerwoman's Dream" by Hilarie Lindsay, published in Australia.  "The Washerwoman's Dream" describes the struggle of settlers from England in the 1880's to outback Austalia and  the hardship of single women trying to support their children, the unbeatable spirit of one woman's determination and her undying love for a man and his country. This is the unforgettable story of Winifred Steger.

Koffee Klatch
July The topic was about losing things, especially something expensive.  Many admitted to misplacing things that were thought lost but all shared in the agony of the hunt.

August For this months Koffee Klatch we shared stories about serendipity or kismet, or pure coincidence depending on you personal views.
