Sharing Reports - Sept/Oct - 2013
I am getting ready to leave for Jekyll Island for a week and decided to
send sharing report early. I’ll be back next Sunday. I really enjoyed
Beginning day and as always Arlene you did excellent on setting up a fun time
in England.
Online beta has been enjoying their summer and we can’t believe that it is
September.
We have a new cyber council representative Jamie Brandon from Pittsburgh,
Pennsylvania. She will be replacing Dianne Kent. I talk with Dianne at
least 3 times month and she is doing fine but been busy with working, her
house, and trying to get her computer up to speed so she decided to take a
break from council. Please welcome Jamie to council.
For the month of July Kandy Lewis gave a program on Lady liberty and
afterwards some of the sisters commented on how they enter the country through
Ellison Island and what Lady Liberty means to them. It was a touching
program!
The month of August our member Susan Brenner did a program on cake
decorating with a history of Duncan Hines. Very nice program and she included
pictures of cakes that she had made and decorated.
Our July social was on picnics and Gail Payne one of our sisters shared a
story on church picnic. Julia gave us a tour of Bilker Park in Austin,
Texas. It’s very nice park with lots to do.
The August social was back to school and vacations before starting school.
Julia gave us a vacation in Portland and Seattle Oregon. Robin took us
on different wine tours and the one in California we took a trolley to the
different wineries. Gail discuss clothes for the first day of school and
some of the girls participated by discussing their favorite outfits and shoes
when they went to school. Dianna shared her first Beginning day and asked
everyone else to share their favorite Beginning day.
OLB enjoys their socials and programs.

July program,
hostess and social was presented by sister Judy
The Hostess theme was Red White and Blue
We had a barbecue with everything from hot dogs, hamburgers, barbecue chicken, pulled pork, baked beans, potato salad to corn on the cob and then homemade ice cream and to top it off we had fireworks.
We had lemonade, iced tea or soft drinks and maybe even a bottle of wine.
Program was titled “What better way to “Light Up Your Life” than with fireworks”.
It was an explanation of what fireworks are with a history of the earliest documentation of fireworks which date back to 7th century China where they were invented. Fireworks world records, largest firework display of all time, largest Catherine wheel, longest firework waterfall, most firework rockets launched in 30 seconds, etc. Also fireworks at the Olympics, fireworks celebrations throughout the world and the United States fireworks celebrations.
August program
Hostess and Social presented by sister Diane
The Hostess theme was Summer Patio BBQ in NC
This is all a little formal for a casual NC buffet, but that's the way it is. First we have typical NC chopped BBQ with your choice of vinegar or tomato based BBQ sauce and a variety of rolls to make a sandwich. The potato salad is made with our famous Duke's Mayonnaise. Can't have BBQ without homemade Cole slaw, so try some of that. It's really good ON the sandwich. I had a good crop of green beans this year, so there is a bowl of cold organic homegrown beans marinated in a vinegar and dill sauce. AND then there are fresh NC coastal peel your own shrimp.
The Social portion had us creating a Suncatcher with stained glass
Good thing this is virtual, huh? Interested in hunting through a stained glass materials website? www.delphiGlass.com Interested in seeing other stained glass free patterns? (There are thousands for sale)

It was entitled LIFE LEARNING
With August being the month many go back to school, I thought we might discuss continuing learning. As you know, our motto is Life, Learning, Friendship, so this is a key part of Beta Sigma Phi. We started as the "What to Read Club" and have grown into the international organization that we are today.
What do you do to increase your learning?

OLP celebrated Beginning Day and Fathers Day together. Kathy planned a picnic for our chapter and invited our families (including husbands, fathers, children and grandchildren) to attend. We had a great time and we'd like to share the fun with all of you:
What a great day for a picnic! Not a cloud in the sky, just a gentle breeze. When you leave the parking lot with your basket of food, veer to the left to the covered picnic area. We have extra ice for those who need more. If you prefer to sit on a blanket under the shade of the trees, the ones on the back side of the area is great. There will be plenty of shade there. We have also set up a small first aid station and a sleep area for those children who need to rest or need to nap if they want. If you notice, the pond is on the other side of the parking lot.
Welcome to all those men who are fathers, step-fathers, father substitutes. This is your day. Enjoy the sunshine. Welcome sisters. This is the first month of our new sorority year. It is time to renew our friendships and to have a great time with our sisters and their families.
Activities:There are bags of dried old bread if you want to feed the ducks. Children under 10 please drag an adult with you because water can be tricky and we don't need you wet this early in the day.
There is a bounce house (with supervision) for the little ones. This house is for children five and under. For the middle kids there is a slide bounce house in the middle. On the very end is an obstacle bounce house. The bounce houses will be here for the duration.
There are nets set up. One for those of us who remember how to play badmitton. The other is for volleyball. If you really want to play hard, remember this park has a tennis court and basketball court on the far side. (Yes, we have some tennis rackets and basketballs for those of you who need them.) If you go there remember your water for it is quite a distance to come back for it.
For those of us who want a little less activity or just want a break from the hard activity we have a few board games to challenge you, friends and family. We have chess, checkers, dominos and scrabble. Also, I threw in a case of playing cards for those of you who have a special card came you may like. The far table is set up for a rounding game of Mexican train. We have lots of bubbles for the little ones. We have small containers for them to carry, and when empty they can come back for a refill.
About an hour after lunch we will begin the fun and games. We have set up races for those who may be interested. The potato race anyone. For those who remember we have pillow cases for the three legged race. Water balloon toss (instead of eggs). Balloon bounce. If we can get together enough interested parties, we can get a game of baseball going. We have bases, bats, and balls.
The committee has a few other surprises. We are going to end the day with ..... water games. We have plastic sheeting and dish soap. Any Guesses??????????? Figured it out yet? No, we are not making anything? Yes, they are spreading the plastic on the side of that small hill and the larger one???? Guessed yet? What is the fire department truck doing here?????? Is there a fire??????? No. Whew, we don't have to leave in a hurry. Why are they coming this way??????? They are carrying hoses!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Yep, they are part of our activity... They are checking their trucks out and hydrants in the area. Okay, time to get wet. The plastic is your water slide and the soap is eco friendly. The firemen are going to spray the plastic, the soap will make it slippery and we are going to have our own water slide. Enjoy! Small people to the small mound. Big to the big mound. Little ones can go down the big mound with a buddy.
That concludes our day. I hope you had fun. This is to celebrate our beginning of another great sorority year and to celebrate our fathers, husbands, and sons who are now fathers. Happy Beginning Day! Happy Fathers Day!

ONLINE DELTA SHARING REPORT
July and August 2013 were "illuminating" months for us as we began to learn about our International theme this year with so many topics and subjects that "Light Up Your Life."
The July Program detailed our USA national monument "The Statue of Liberty" as a
reminder that her torch of light is a symbol of freedom that we hold so dearly. We were also asked to share other monuments that have shone a light in our lives. The August Program inquired how we use light in our lives, the history of light from the beginnings of fire to our modern use of LED light bulbs. Interesting questions sparked responses to the types of lighting uses in our home as well as how have we experienced occasions of standing in the "limelight." Further inquery was just how much light pollution in our location do we have to contend with to see the nightly stars, plus the psychological effects of light upon our moods.
Our Service chairman in July shared some interesting facts and solutions to beating
the summer heat as our Aussie sisters have been trying to stay
warmer by the fireside. August Service brought laughs as to how often most of us deal with C-Nile viruses in the real world.
Every month we have a Koffee Klatch to bring up random discussion. A new topic
never before explored was "What are you doing this very moment?—send an email!"
Our Book Club is setting up the schedule of books for the coming year presented
every other month. Our Chairman has been reading several Christian fiction series
of "Carolina Cousins," The "Wortham Family" series and new "Janet Maple" series.
We will expand on our title line-up in the next Cyber Council sharing Report.
Our August Social was a fun "Beach Party in Hawaii." Mamma Hilo Hattie taught us
how to make leis but we didn't get to present contest awards because all the
nominations on slips of paper all flew out of the conch shell!
We were invited to a Hawaiian lua with a sumptuous array of heavenly morsels
and plenty of Mai-Tias to sweeten the display of Hawaiian and Somoan fire dancing,
"Lighting Up Our Lives," again.
We will be sharing the most royal 2013 Cyber Council Beginning Day shortly.
We have all arrived in our gorgeous dresses and hats at the Bath Hotel in England in the gardens for a most luxurious tea party. We will snack on lovely tea sandwiches and floral punches before our leader reads a history of our beloved BSP. We were served on the plane flight a number of delightful food recipes shared by our sisters and anticipate a copy of all that were shared in our own BSP Beginning Day Cookbook to take home with us as a momento of this glorious occasion. Many thanks to all those who contributed to making this such a memorable event.
Your Sister In OLD,
Evelyn—Cyber Council Rep 2013-2014
Happy September ladies!
I look forward to the temperatures cooling off in the Texas area soon. Hope the weather is good for all of you.
I certainly enjoyed the break from the weather on our trip to England, great trip!! Loved the sites and of course our hats.
Online Kappa had a lovely opening day with a great activity planned by our social chair Erica. We had a lovely get together, of course with great food and we made a beautiful wreath for our doors, made from yellow foam which we made into yellow roses. Perfect for opening day in BSP.
We have a new cyber rep who will join in with me, welcome Rhonda.
We have a new member, welcome to Peggy. We have had a couple of visitors as well. Looking forward to another great year of sharing and learning.
In my opinion cyber council helps to keep all of the online chapters connected. I feel it’s similar to a city council meeting of all the chapters where we kept up with the rest of the local chapters. Thanks to the members who work so hard to keep the meetings running smoothly.
