Beta Sigma Phi Cyber Council

Sharing Reports - Sept 2004

OnLine Alpha Phi

Alpha Phi are here and thinking about all those in the paths of the Hurricanes past present and future.... and truly pray for alls safety... One of our sisters Julie, our moderator and council Rep, is currently not at home, and living with relatives as her home had a second story collapes down into the first floor and have lost much and will take time for insurance and repairs, and she has an 8 yr old daughter, and 1 year old daughter and her husband... They've been struck 3 times this year with tragedy and yet she like all BSP's keeps going.... Do we all have a little Pink Bunny in us @ times?

Our sisterhood has been quiet this summer but just accepted another new member, we still have 3 openings for new sisters. Here in midwest most of seem to have found that we were blessed with a milder summer heat this year than most.

I have communicated Laura's request for the Disaster Fund to my land chapter president to be discussed at our next meeting.

Looking forward to FALL, just around the corner,
Beta Love,
Mariann Chance
Enid, Oklahoma OLAP Rep.

OnLine Beta

We hope you all had a great summer! Online Beta sure did! This summer we welcomed back some sisters as well as having new sisters join us. Our membership is at 73. Our cap is 75.

Our June social honored Mother Goose. Many of our clever sisters wrote their own rhymes in the Mother Goose style. We also had a wonderful Hawaiian Luau. The food and souveniers were awesome! Many also learned their Hawaiian names!

Our July social was a continuation of our Getting to Know You series. This is a four part series that has each sister tell about her state, provence or country. We have learned so much about the places our sisters live. It's like a new geography class every three months!

August social was great! We had our own "reporters" at the Olympics. We learned that one our sisters had an "in" at the 1984 Los Angeles games. The pictures sure brought back memories... ahhh 80's fashion!

On the service side, we were encouraged to write to our Senators to help preserve cancer funding. The following link has a fill in form to send a letter for you. http://komenpolicy.org/campaign/dod/

We have several sisters in Florida. Our prayers are with those who have suffered through Charley and Frances with Ivan closing in.

Respectfully submitted,
Kandy (in Hawaiian - Kanaki)
Cathy ( Kaki)
Andi (Anaki)

OnLine Lambda

First, I am happy and relived to report that our OLL Sisters Irene, Dottie, and Libby are all safe after the horrendous weather in Florida. I have had phone messages from Dottie, email from Libby, and just reached Irene by cell phone this morning. Irene and Dottie do not have electricity at thsi time.

OnLine Lambda has had informal monthly meetings and social activities throughout the summer and all member are becoming well-acquainted. All were eager to have Special Sisters, and so we chose an Interim Special Sister Keeeper when we reached our membership cap in June. Everyone chose to participate in Special sisters!

We are currently holding elections for our permanent 2004-2005 officers. Participation in the nomination process has been wonderful, and we have many excellent and worthy candidates to choose from for our officers, and enthusiasm has been wonderful. We are all eager to get our permanent officers and committees in place and continue with a full schedule for the rest of the chapter year! I will be proud to introduce the OnLine Lambda officers to the Cyber Council within the next week!

All chapter members received a surprise gift for Beginning Day - a charter member pin with our fairy mascot and "OnLine Lambda Charter 2004".

Georgia has been serving as our Interim Recording Secretary.

Ann has done a wonderful job as our Interim Special Sister Keeper.

Carolyn has been compiling yearbook info and keeping us all updated on our membership sheets through the summer.

Carolyn and Georgia have been working together to compile the OLL history.

Val and Judy have the website up and running - it really looks great!

OLL By-laws and Standing Rules have been approved by the membership. They will be presented to Laura Wingfield along with our charter resquest when Irene visits International this month. OLL members have voted that Irene be designated "Honorary Fairy GodSister" for OnLine Lambda. and our website will be changed to reflect that title! We apologize for any misunderstanding it may have caused when she was inadvertantly listed on our website as a regular member. . . . she participates with us so enthusiastically that it is easy to forget that she is an Honorary member!

Irene is spearheading the BSP Hurricane Relief efforts in Florida and other OLL members are participating as well in this as our first service project.

Respectfully Submitted,
Darby Kelso
Interim Chairman
Interim Cyber Council Representative

OnLine Theta

It has been another busy month for Online Theta sisters. Our Florida sisters Juanita, Roxanne, and Susan and our North Carolina sister Lisa survived the effects of Hurricane Charley but now are on Hurricane watch for Frances. Roxanne and Susan have evacuated to a relative's home until the storm passes.

California sister, Staci is back in school again, taking classes in Psychology and American Sign Language.

Texas sister Polly, who has a daughter who was born deaf shared information about signing with Staci and also posted information to us about BSP's first chapter for the deaf. Polly also continues her Ombudsman work for the elderly.

Since the last Cyber Council meeting, several sisters have lost loved ones, and several others are dealing with serious health problems. We support them with prayers and named Wednesdays as OLT's "Bubble Day." This is the day each week when we all go outside and blow bubbles and pray for one another. It's beautiful and peaceful to send those bubbles and prayers skyward.

Michigan sister Vivian M had cataract surgery on both eyes (first one then the other), but is doing well.

New sister Barbara is currently on a cruise to Alaska, her third and should return this week end.

When sister Arlene learned that Irene Jarvis is handling disaster funds for BSP sisters in south Florida who were damaged by Hurricane Charley, she presented the info to her local chapter and her lc (as well as a few individual sisters) contributed $140 for the cause. Several other OLT sisters have sent donations as well.

Alyce is sharing her gifts of Sisterhood with her medically challenged friends by driving taking them to doctor appointments, bringing food to them, etc. She has also offered her services to the local AARP Resource Center, where she will help write a procedural manual.

Our Canadian sister Melissa reports that our lovely, little "legacy" Maya is thriving and now has a bit part in a German movie.

Charlene has a new addition to her family - Smokey the Bear - a beautiful German Shepherd puppy. Sheri's cat was diagnosed with health problems and Vivian B's cat Chloe was recently discovered to be JOEY!

We continue to support various online service projects by clicking at their sites each day. We, recently added the 3M Pink Post-it (r) note site where $1 for each click is donated to cancer research.

Several sisters will be traveling to Missouri in October to meet at the State Convention there. The rest of us wish we could go, too.

Arlene is currently hosting our latest round online Bingo game. OLT has been playing bingo for well over two years now. The moderator for the game posts a list of 75 related words. Sisters who wish to play pick 25 of the words (their card) and send them by private mail to the moderator. Each day, the moderator posts 5 words to the loop (sometimes with tidbits of information about the subject) and sisters mark off the words on their lists. The first sister to cross off all 25 words is the winner and becomes the next moderator. To make it more interesting, the winner also receives a small gift from the previous moderator (usually a small Dollar Store item). Sisters love to play the game and look forward to each new Bingo. We have had informative and fun subjects, including: roses, movies, recipes, fish, books, Renaissance fairs, state mottos, foreign countries, etc. Arlene's current bingo is on the Olympics.
