Sharing Reports - July/August - 2017

On Line Beta

It is hard to believe we are starting another sorority year with installation of our new officers
at our May meeting.

Online Beta's May program was on "Guam" presented by Susan, her son is stationed there so family went to visit.  Also our OLB sister LaShonna & her family are also stationed there so it was nice for them to meet face to face.

Our May social was an Online shower for Lashonna.  Susan took many presents for our future Legacy & Mom LaShonna & her family were surprised & thrilled!  We all enjoyed all the pictures of the meeting, gifts etc

In June, our new program committee presented a program on "Who, what, where, when, why & how to do a program" and it was very informative for long time or brand new BSP's.

Val presented June social on "Graduations" from Kindergarten or College with lots of pictures & thoughts from the members as we all went down memory lane with our own graduations.

Recipe & Craft committee shared some wonderful recipes as well as craft ideas on bow making etc.  Madonna shared some photos of her turtle topiary which was really neat but she is so talented & can create something pretty neat out of most anything.

Another accomplishment of OLB was endorsing an International Honorary Member Louise Penny.

On a more personal note, I got to meet an Online sister at the TN convention and that was pretty neat.  Evelyn from OLD also attended.  I had worn by denim shirt from the International conv, Evelyn recognized it, we started talking & discovered we are both in Cyber Council etc.  TN conv June 2018 will be hosted by Knoxville in Gatlinburg.  If anyone is interested, let me know & will keep you in the loop.  Evelyn & I are hoping they will include a meeting time for Online sisters attending the conv to meet face to face.

Hugs,

On Line Kappa

Online Kappa had a moving memorial for one of our sisters who had been battling several ailments. Beth finally got home after being in the hospital for some time and passed away quietly in her sleep leaving her loving husband Richard and two step sons. Beth loved many things including travel, BSP and rescuing animals. Our chapter is making a donation in her name to her local shelter. Beth was one of the founding members of our chapter and my special sister this year. We will miss her wit and love of life; Beth was also a veteran.

June also found us traveling on a bus from Oregon where one of our members lives, all the way to California. We had a fabulous time the sites, food and comradry was amazing. One of our members Carrie actually just made this 2200 mile trip and thought we would all enjoy it. Dean Ann who lives in Arkansas educated us all on grape growing and wine making in her home state; we had some delicious grape jam and jelly and of course tasty drinks.
Our July meeting will be taking place this weekend and I look forward to our virtual travels. We hope each of you is having a fantastic July. It is very warm in many areas where our sisters live and some have experienced some flooding rains. Real travel is in the air for several sisters including Europe, a cruise, camping and family trips with the kids.
Have a safe July sisters!
Respectfully submitted,
Mary

President Report
Bobbi:  In taking the helm for this year, I felt it necessary to review our membership.  In doing so, I found some action
that I and Debbie, your VP, needed to take.  As you can see from Debbie’s report, she has been in touch with members who were on LOA.   I asked International to provide the Annual Records Review.  We have 17 members who are ONLY members of OLD.  Those of us who are in a Land chapter are referred to as Virtual Members of OLD.   We have 14 members who are in land chapters.
If you are no longer a member of a Land Chapter, please notify Debbie of that, so she can get you moved to OLD.  This is important so that you do not lose any time towards your next degree. As long as you are participating in our Programs, your online time will count.

Touch: A warm touch can make all the difference in the world for those we come into contact with.  Remember to share and show you care.  Do you have a memory of when a touch meant a great deal to you?   Or are you one of those, like one of my daughters, who doesn’t like to be touched by “outsiders”. (No massages, pedicures, etc.)
July
Combination Program/Social visit to Yosemite Park.

Ann:  Sisters, those of us in the western Hemisphere need to think about the heat and how effects those around us.  Everything needs more water this time of year.  Try to carry extra bottles of water with you wherever you go so you will have some to share should the need arise.  At a softball game one of the kids or even an observer may need to rehydrate quickly to prevent heat stroke.  A dog out on a hike may show signs of needing a drink and if you have extra then you can help.  It takes so little time to be mindful and serve others.

Membership
Debbie:   I have not received any names of prospective members from International or Cyber Council.  Both Taneisha  and Jan have returned from Leave of Absence.  Linda  had gone Member-at-Large.
The Pledge ritual was held for Cathy on July4th.  Although she has been a loyal and  giving member for almost a year her ritual was overlooked. The ritual was followed by a lot of congrats , tea and coffee and a dessert of 'No Bake Summer Berry Icebox Cake.'

Socials
In  celebration of July 4th Hilda and Donna invited us on a journey to Yosemite Park.  We hiked to Bridal Veil Falls and Bernall Falls.  For lunch a Boy Scout Troop presented us with a Fourth of July entertainment. and a meal of  hot dogs, corn on the cob, apple pie and lemonade!  After dinner at the lodge, Donna  took us to a ranger talk titled "Starry Night Skies Over Yosemite”, a cosmic voyage as you lay beneath the stars. On day 2 Donna and her husband provided a hot and cold scrumptious breakfast buffet.  We then headed for another hike through the Yosemite redwoods on ChiulnualnaFalls Trail to view the Falls at the top. The Boy Scouts provided a healthy light meal after our vigorous trek.  After dinner at our hotel we listened to soft music while watching the starry twilight of our enormous galaxy.

Book Club
The book you should be reading for June/July is “Lab Girl” by Hope Jahren.   Evelyn will present her review during the fourth week of July.

May
Leslie asked us to share a memorable event relating to our great Sisterhood. What a surprise to learn of Leslie's most memorable event: At the top of my list, is the day I answered the phone and on the other end with Bill Ross. He had been to a sister's house in California and had seen a yellow rose china painting I had been commissioned to do for her at the end of her term as our Southern California Council President. Mr. Ross was contacting me as he had seen the painting and was interested in my doing one for his beloved wife, Marilyn. He asked me if I could paint strawberries. Marilyn's favorite decor item was strawberries and he wanted a tile done for her for their kitchen. After I caught my breath (because I was talking to Bill Ross!), I told him that I could do strawberries, and I would be honored to create a painting for her. I did the painting and Mr. Ross was delighted, and that led to my doing to teacups for International for several years as well as creating a series of Christmas ornaments called "The 12 days of Christmas".
June
Elinor asked for help in planning a 3 week summer vacation.  After many fabulous suggestions she decided on the one to take a Canadian cross country train trip from Toronto to Vancouver, British Columbia.

May Sharing Report:

Chris opened the meeting and members recited the Opening Ritual.

We had 23 members present with 2 absent.  We have openings for 5 additional members.

Discussion was held regarding changes to the Standing Rules and By-Laws.  After much discussion, a final draft was presented with changes.  Terry made the motion to accept the changes as proposed.  There was no second motion posted.  Janice amended the motion to note the addition of a back-up webmaster and that the webmaster will act as a “second teller.”  Sheila made the motion to accept the changes as proposed with the added change to the webmaster.  BJ seconded the motion.

Program Report:  Eleanor reported that she needed volunteers for August 2017 and January 2018 programs.  Margaret volunteered for August 2017 and Jan volunteered for January 2018.  Jan also suggested that programs be referenced in subject lines as “(Month/Year) Program.”

Trudy presented the chapter with a wonderful (virtual) cruise to Antarctica, where we did some penguin watching and learned about the five types of penguins.  A Captain’s dinner was held on board the ship where members could gather and socialize while staying indoors from the chilly polar temperatures.

General discussion was held regarding the 2017 Reunion in Lancaster, PA that was coming up in early June.

With no further business to discuss, the meeting was adjourned and the members received the Closing Ritual and Mizpah.

June Sharing Report:

The Online Sigma Reunion was held June 9-11, 2017.  We had 12 sisters and 3 spouses join us in Lancaster, PA.  That Friday, we enjoyed visiting the Bird in Hand Farmers Market where we all shopped.  We also ventured to the Plain and Fancy Farm where we toured an Amish School and Home and watched a movie depicting Amish culture in Jacob’s Choice Theatre.  That evening we were treated to an Amish dinner.  On Saturday, our sisters were treated to a Smorgasbord at Shady Maples followed by shopping at their huge store.  That evening, Chris had the honor to surprise sister Judy by presenting her with Golden Circle ritual.  Afterwards, sisters enjoyed a pot luck dinner and visiting with each other.  On Sunday, we enjoyed breakfast before saying our good byes.  It was such a wonderful weekend to visit with sisters, some of which had not met before.

Our June meeting notes will be shared during next month’s sharing report.

Due to health reasons of a few officers, we held a combination May/June meeting.

We discussed the upcoming election of new officers.  Our secretary is going on a short leave of absence due to her health situation. Our President is having surgery also.  Members agreed to combined meeting.

Elections will take place at our next meeting, when a slate of officers will be ready.  We currently have 4 active online members, one on short LOA, and 4 land chapter visiting members.  Our VP reported our pledge training is in progress and she will report when we will have the ritual for our newest member.

Program for the meeting was presented by Cathy Martin.  She presented a list of unusual laws on the books in the state of OH; i.e.  “ In Cleveland, it is illegal to catch mice without a hunting license. ??  Do you have to carry it with you or post it on the premises?”  Discussion followed with other members sharing unusual laws in their current state or home state.

Our next meeting will be held at the end of July.

OLAP chapter report.

Cathy

This past month we had elections.  I am so happy that our new President will be Dora.

We also had elections for the Woman of the Day, which we revealed at our Founder's Day Celebration.

Our Woman of the Day is our new President:  Dora

Our Beta Booker Club discussed a couple of books- it is really nice to hear what other books sisters are reading!  This can be very inspirational.

We have had two new prospectives.
Weather for our sisters has been ranging from snow to over 80 degree weather.  There have been rainly days for some; sunny days for others.
It sure is nice to talk about our different areas.

Our President-elect may have more to contribute about our meetings!

Best,

Joanie
