On Line Kappa

Happy spring sisters! Some of us have had stormy weather, some rainy weather and some pretty flowers to enjoy too.

Online Kappa has been keeping busy, we have had a couple members who were hospitalized but are feeling much better now with the thoughts and prayers of our members. We have had a couple delightful ladies visiting our chapter too. Our service project this year was to support St Jude's Children's hospital, a very worthy cause. We had a tie when we voted for woman of the year between our president Karen and one of the founding members of our chapter, Carrie; both of these ladies are so very deserving! Our Founders Day program was a fabulous trip (virtual) to Germany to celebrate with our BSP sisters there. Peggy did a great job giving the entire ceremony in both English and German. It was so interesting to take in some of the culture and sites of Germany.

We hope each of you had a wonderful Founders Day as well. Happy Mother's Day to you, your Moms and other important women in your lives.

Respectfully submitted, Mary

Programs April

April program was an interesting story on coffee   Hilda's family actually owned a coffee plantation in Antiqua.  She told of its history, its involvement in slavery and the controversy it produced, some interesting true stories, production of coffee in different countries today and also the little known fact that JOHANN SEBASTIAN BACH  composed  the secular “COFFEE CANTATA” in 1732-35, in which a young woman pleads with her disapproving father to accept her devotion to drink coffee, then a new-fangled fashion.

Membership New Members during 2016-2017 as: Rebecca, Linda and Kathy Our 2016-2017 Woman of The Year was Susan who was greatly appreciated for her willingness to help anyone in need on our Yahoo website

Koffee Klatch  April Leslie asked us to share a memorable event relating to our great Sisterhood.  What a surprise to learn of Leslie's most memorable event: At the top of my list, is the day I answered the phone and on the other end with Bill Ross. He had been to a sister's house in California and had seen a yellow rose china painting I had been commissioned to do for her at the end of her term as our Southern California Council President. Mr. Ross was contacting me as he had seen the painting and was interested in my doing one for his beloved wife, Marilyn. He asked me if I could paint strawberries. Marilyn's favorite decor item was strawberries and he wanted a tile done for her for their kitchen. After I caught my breath (because I was talking to Bill Ross!), I told him that I could do strawberries, and I would be honored to create a painting for her. I did the painting and Mr. Ross was delighted, and that led to my doing to teacups for International for several years as well as creating a series of Christmas ornaments called "The 12 days of Christmas".

Socials Bobbi presented OLD Founders  Day 2017 which was awesome. Please take a look here and share it with your chapter: OLD Founders Day 2017

We all stood and repeated the national anthems of our members form the countries of Australia, Canada, Italy, the United Kingdom and USA. We were invited to celebrate Beta Sigma Phi's 86th  Founder's Day. Online Delta Chapter was formed in May 1998 Online Delta Chapter was chartered as OL #104 February 1, 2006 Our Luncheon menu was delicious with  Seared Pacific Salmon with Lemon Dill Bur Blanc, Toasted Almond Rice Pilaf,  Breast of Chicken with Wild Mushroom Marsala Sauce,  Garlic Sautéed Green Beans & Honey Butter Carrots,  Assorted Gourmet Seasonal Salads,  A variety of breads and rolls with Butter. The perfect ending was the Sumptuous Spring Dessert Buffet. We also were served  OLD'S  private cocktail—spiked or virgin. Next the Founders Day Pledge was read.  We were elated to learn  our Woman of the Year was Susan. The Founders Day International Message was read and we discovered our new 2017-2018 theme  will be  "In Touch With Tomorrow" Bobbi included some of the clip art that embodies our new theme to look forward to the future. The closing ritual was repeated.

Terry opened our April meeting with the opening ritual.  Evelyn gave the VP report, noting we currently have 25 members with room for 5 more members.  Terry then installed our new officers:  Chris as President, Diane as VP, and Stella as Recording Secretary.  Chris then installed Terry as our Corresponding Secretary.  Eleanor reported that the April program and Social will be presented by Stella.

Stella’s program and social had us board OLS Airlines as we travelled to Andalucia, Spain. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Andalusia  We arrived in Seville and stayed at the Hotal Alcantara (http://www.hotelalcantara.net/en/hotel/).  We did a lot of walking during our tour of Seville as we explored Murillo Gardens, the Plaza de Sata Cruz, along with the Real Alcazar (Royal Palace).  We also toured the Seville Cathedral and the iconic Giralda Tower.  A highlight of our trip was our visit to La Casa del Flamenco (http://www.andalucia.com/flamenco/history.htm).  Later we visited Cordoba and Granada before heading back home.

Chris reported that there are a total of 16 people attending our reunion in Lancaster PA in June (13 sisters and 3 husbands).  She also posted the itinerary of our weekend.

Terry then performed the Preceptor ritual for Lisa, and Chris performed the Laureate ritual for Terry.

Sharon posted the minutes from our March meeting.

Terry then posted her “last words” as President, followed by posting of the closing ritual.

Respectfully,

Chris

On Line Beta

It is hard to believe it is May with this Fall like weather we are having here in middle & East TN, very gusty winds, several inches of rain today and high for tomorrow in the forties!

Online Beta has been busy as everyone else, Our March program was on Geneology and wide range of interest from the buffs who have done tons of research back for generations to the brand new ones just starting out.  Our social was to Niagara on the Lake.  What a fun and beautiful trip.

Our April program was on Easter.  We shared memories & pictures of family traditions and learned how the various pagan things about Easter started as well as the religious part of Easter started.  It was fun to see favorite Easter outfits and baskets.

The preparation for Founder's Day was fun as we all got a glimpse of some very pretty dresses for this special occasion and then began the traditional FD festivities.  Pres VAl was name Woman of the Year.

We had two members that won International Yearbook awards and member Liz received her Diamond Ritual for 60 yrs in BSP.  We also are preparing for a SURPRISE baby shower for a brand new Legacy.  Susan will be visiting her military son in Guam and will be presenting LaShonna also in Guam with real & virtual gifts.

Hugs,

Sandy K
