Sharing Reports - March/April - 2017

On Line Eta

Our chapter continues to grow with visitors and guests making up land chapter meetings before year's end.  Judy's cruise has taken her to Australia where she is in port right now making up meetings. Online  Upsilon invited her to attend their March meeting as a guest. We thank OL Upsilon for helping her.  Tanya continues her journey between 2 states making up her meetings. Joyce is loving living in Germany sharing pictures. She is learning German and showing us her written skills.  Jenielle from OLAA was our guest in Feb. we were so glad to have her visit.

We had a 2 day program and social on the making of Candy Hearts and Mardi Gras celebrations.  A welcome ritual was given for Chrissy, Alex, and Rebekah - newest additions to Eta. We maybe topping 40 members now.

We elect officers in January and not, May. Less of a hassle before sisters take off for summer. We get them in on time to INTL.

We will be voting on INTL service projects in March, so we can have them in on May 1st We will be hosting a Founder's Day online via web pages in April and will send Council members the link if chapters would like to participate that can't be at a land one or didn't hear the messages and all. It will end and click over to the clip art afterwards. So this will go out between April 30th and May 1st.   Making sure all have had Founder's Day 1st.

We’ve been lucky enough to celebrate birthdays and anniversaries throughout January and February. Our sisters have been busy with visiting families and taking vacations.

President Report

Welcome to our meeting. I hope everyone had a great holiday.

Programs

Our January Programme was a well researched and thought provoking piece on the history of New Years Resolutions and we had a discussions about how our sisters approached them or avoided them.

Our February programme topic is in-keeping with the theme for 16-17 as we had a discussion about heart disease and heart health. A topic that was close to peoples hearts and thoughts as people had been affected by it, or have loved ones affected by it.

Service

Our January Service was on the practice of relation and reflection. In the busy world we live in it can be hard to remember to stop, make time for ourselves and reflect.

Our February Service was a series of good news stories from around the world as we hear so many negative things in the media that a balance can be refreshing.

Book Club

Susan is doing a great job of running book club. It’s a great way to read something you might not usually pick for yourself.

For January we had 'Interference" by Amelie Antoine is a mystery thriller about the mysterious death of a wife and the interfering characters and circumstances that prevent an easy solution.

For February/March we have ‘Tourist Season’ by Carl Hiassen a crime comedy of sorts set in the Florida swamps.

Koffee Klatch

In January we were talking about the women that inspire us in our lives and those who have helped us along our journeys.

In February we had a KK on the history of sending letters and were asked if we still post items as email is so popular.

OLD Website

Karon is great at keeping our website updated with all our latest news.

Kind regards and Delta Hugs

Our sisters have been enjoying the beginning of the new year discussing the wide variety of weather we have been experiencing.  From snow, rain, flooding and winds to thankfully, some sunny days- we have seen it all I think.  Several of our members who live in the northern areas have travelled south to enjoy some nicer weather.  Our January meeting we learned about raising grapes for wines and we had a wonderful lunch and shopping experience at an Amish store in Arkansas, near the home of one of our members.  In February we had a fantastic day seeing a play about a woman who grew up in Mississippi around the Civil War era and the loss of her first love. At intermission of the play we had a yummy lunch followed by the second act during which the young woman finds a wonderful husband who brings her happiness and builds a lovely home for her. This play took place near the community where this member's mother-in-law lives. It was a very fun and entertaining day.  We also voted on our chapter sweetheart, the member who takes time to keep in touch with other sisters. We have many deserving members and this year, I was so very honored to receive the award.  Our March meeting will be coming up soon with another well organized day by our president. We all look forward to the programs and socials and of course discussion after the meeting. Many sisters are or will be enjoying spring break with their children and grandchildren.  Happy March sisters!

In January we held a lovely Silver Circle Ritual which was officiated by Madonna. Three members received the ritual.  Then Dora treated us to an afternoon Tea to celebrate this special day!  This certainly brings us closer to our sisters, which is one of the goals of Beta Sigma Phi. Online Upsilon loves our programs and socials! We enjoyed warming up together with nice cups of tea.  Last month Laura took us to Portugal (oh the sites! oh the food!).  Then, for our social--  One of our members has a farm, and she had us as her guests this month (virtual of course).  The pictures, and the food was amazing!  She has horses, and we had a carriage ride.  How special is that? Then we went to our Valentine's Day Celebration in Nashville.  We (virtually) stayed for the weekend and enjoyed some site seeing.  Of course we went to the Ole Opry House!  We crowned out Sweetheart Queen Billie. We have one new member and I do believe our new sister immensely enjoyed all of our travels this past January and February!

Our Jan mtg was a special one as our social was our Chapter Birthday celebrating 19 yrs online.  To compliment that, our program was "Share a photo and/or Memory of you joining Beta Sigma Phi" and many fun times & pictures were shared.  Our service chairmen reminded us of the many Homeless in each of our "neighborhoods" and remember them with new or gently used coats, blankets etc.

In Feb our social chairmen took us on an "air trip" to Dublin, Ireland and what a tour it was with lots of food, fun & fellowship with lots of shopping too.  Our program was a History of our BSP programs starting with the Program Books for each degree we originally started with and now the outlines we can now order on many themes.  Our Service project was about SAD--Seasonal Affective Disorder--which is a category of depression due to lack of sunlight at various times of the year.

We also voted on Our Valentine Queen and two gals-Sue & Susan-will reign as queens this year.

Our VP announced we now have total of 5 new members and pledge training is well under way for them so we have had an exciting & busy start to 2017

Beta Hugs,

Sandy K
