On Line Kappa

Online Kappa met for our Christmas gathering at the Dayton Sorority House in Ohio suggested and hosted by Doris who lives nearby. The decorations were amazing. The food was fantastic: a green salad with strawberries followed by Chicken Kiev and cherries jubilee for dessert. Our program was given by Bonnie about a garden and bird sanctuary in Lake Wales, Florida called Bok Tower; it sounds like a truly magnificent place to visit. We concluded with a gift exchange. We are also privileged to have two new members pledge to our chapter, please welcome Jeanette and Lisa Marie!

From our chapter to each of you and yours, a wonderful New Year.

On Line Delta

First and foremost, it is with great sorrow Online Delta announces the passing of Lee Scarlett Ousterling. Lee was one of the founding members of Online Delta and one of the strongest, most gracious, and bravest sisters I have ever known. Right up until the end she was emailing uplifting and hope filled messages to her Online Delta sisters. To say she will be missed is an understatement. "May the Lord watch between me and thee while we are absent one from the other." Rest in peace, Lee.

Lee's Memorial Service is tomorrow at 1PM. Online Delta will be having a Memorial Service online concurrently. Please enjoy a moment of silence at 1 PM PST to honor our sister, Lee.

The sisters of OLD were a bit subdued in November and December; holiday food and excitement? Maybe. but here is a synopsis of our happenings:

Book Club:

In November Lucille McDonald led us in a discussion of "The Elephant Whisperer" by Lawrence Anthony. This is a true story about the author's life with a herd of African Elephants in the wild.
For December/January we preparing to discuss "Sycamore Row" by John Grisham. This book is the long awaited sequel (20 years in the making) to "A Time to Kill". The discussion will commence January 23rd.
Koffee Klatch presentations included:

Hum, I don't remember what the November Koffee Klatch was. Just kidding. Evelyn Branby lead us in a discussion called "How is your memory holding up?" Tools included a tiny test. I do believe most everyone faired pretty well.
In December Gina explained the importance of hugs in our well-being. Explaining that hugs give immediate relief to stress and help lower your blood pressure.
Our December social was postponed. The cold weather made it nearly impossible to fly those magic carpets but we are waiting with baited breath for Evelyn's "always worth waiting for" social.

Programs:iv

In November, we visited the Yankee Candle Factory. Tour Guide Evelyn allowed us to get a peak at some of the new Yankee Candle products and to smell some of the new fragrances (as well as some of the old ones). The tour was extremely informative and interesting.
Our December program was given by Val Jerram. It was a very introspective program causing us to look at our lives and determine where we had made a difference in the life or well-being of someone else. It was very insightful.
Service:

Hilda Braly reported on Giving Smart and provided ideas for holiday donations.
In December, Hilda delighted us with a story appropriate for the Christmas season.
Chapter Chatter:

Harlene, Bobbi, Ann, and Lee all provided updates on comings, goings, health, and happiness.

On Line Beta

Online Beta has had a very busy month. For our social we flew to Edmonton AB. We had a fantastic shopping trip and stayed at the Fantasy Lank Hotel for the weekend. Sisters were able to choose from a variety of activities including shopping, skating, and reading. We also enjoyed Dinner Theater on Saturday night.

During our program, we talked about New Year’s traditions. In Spain, they eat 12 grapes at midnight at each tone of the clock to represent 12 months of good luck. In Austria and Germany, the read molten lead to see what it says about the New Year. In the Philippines, polka dots are worn for good luck. We talked about our own traditions including eating collard greens, black eyed peas, and pork.

On Line Theta

Many of us have suffered from the flu, etc. in the past month. Our sister, Jean, lost her husband recently, and we continue sympathy for Jean and her family.

This month we are voting on our chapter Sweetheart for 2015.

Service clicks for December: 2,190

Chapter elections will be coming soon. We encourage members to volunteer for offices for 2015-2016.

Our chapter book club is being hosted this month by Kat.

We will have a chapter program later in January.

One of our chapter traditions was discussed. It was decided to leave the tradition as it stands. This tradition regards chapter membership.

On Line Psi

The sisters of OLP send greetings and wish all of you a Happy New Year. December was also a busy time for us.

Service: We continued to click the Breast Cancer site.

Recipes: Jean shared a recipe for roasting green coffee beans, along with some interesting facts about everything you always wanted to know about coffee.

Program: Rose posted a Christmas poem from Family Friends Poems. There were many lovely poems on the website, and my favorite was, "The Littlest Christmas Tree" Anonymous.

Book Club: Jean led the book review, "Skipping Christmas" by John Gresham. It's a story about a family's attempt to avoid Christmas, resulting in an unexpected heartwarming ending. Many of our members shared reminiscences about their Christmas experiences that were very compelling. A lively discussion followed.

Rose, OLP

On Line Xi

Online Xi had a busy month of service where several members donated time to help those in need. One member assisted her daughter in a service project for the needy, other donated to Salvation Army, angel tree's in their area, and coat drives to help the homeless. (One thing I like most about BSP is that we promote service all year long, not just around the holidays when most people think about it.)

We continues with our weekly "Rose, Bud, Thorn" and cheered our sisters on with their successes as well as offered support for their worries/issues.

The holidays were a busy time of year for all of our members but we still managed to stay together and be there for each other.
