Sharing Reports - January, 2007

On Line Epsilon

OLE has been a bit quieter than usual as everyone seemed to be caught up in the holidays. As I moved on December first, I know I was sure playing catch up all month. We did engage in a few interesting topics since our last report, however. We discussed our plans for Thanksgiving and what our families tended to expect. Gingerbread was "voted" on by our members and it seemed not only did most of us think house building was too much trouble, but a lot of us didn't even care for gingerbread. New Year's Day traditions were hashed over to discover the black eyed pea people as well as what activities members usually pursued the day after celebrating. My personal favorite of our recent discussions was a program on Preferential Teas. I was amazed at how many members did not realize this was a BSP tradition. It seems many chapters no longer hold these events. Our younger members were amazed by stories of formal gowns and long white gloves some of the old timers recalled from their Preferential Tea days. I'm not sure I want to drag out the white gloves again, but I sure hate to see the BSP traditions falling by the wayside. Now that the parties are over, Epsilon members are looking forward to filling the dreary months of January thru March with lots of chapter chatter.

We are currently in the middle of our January meeting where we will vote on our budget and Legacy Committee guidelines. Since our chapter runs on the calendar year we are busy as bees planning our new year. We have celebrated several milestones since our last Sharing Report. Here are a few of our highlights:

Guidelines for making up meetings for perfect attendance were approved at our September meeting and are listed on our web site - http://www.cawamn.com/OnLineBeta/ .

November was our 100th business meeting. We held a virtual Ritual of Jewels for our Pledge member Andrea Fechner. The evening was a memorable one for all in attendance.

We elected new officers in November and installed them at our December meeting. 2007 Officers for OnLine Beta are: President - Dianne Kent; Vice President - Julia Gibson; Secretary - Beth Patterson; Treasurer - Judy Alexiou. Cathy Hilden was re-appointed as List Administrator.

We also voted for Woman of the Year at our December meeting and our proud to announce Dianne Kent as our 2006 Woman of the Year.

Our online socials include a Teddy Bear Picnic; Oktoberfest and holiday parties for Thanksgiving and Christmas. We have gained an even deeper appreciation and insight to our members as we shared in our program topics on movies; our greatest accomplishment in life; happiness is ____; and our best Christmas/Hanuka memory and why it was special.

We welcomed Sandy Kellough as our newest online member. Although new to the cyber world of Beta Sigma Phi; she is by no means new to Beta Sigma Phi and we are so happy she has joined us.

OnLine Beta's 9th birthday was January 5th and we will have a virtual birthday celebration later this month. Our celebration will also be available at our website.

Beta hugs and Best wishes to all for a Happy 2007!

Our sisters enjoyed a happy holiday season and now we are gearing up for the New Year. We have shared our New Year's resolutions with one another and we now are giving an update as to how we are doing each week.

Our Program for Nov. concerned Hate Crimes in this country. One of our sisters shared the info she gather for her school paper. In Dec. our program was on Jacob Lawrence and a number of his paintings were posted for us to see and enjoy.

Our social last month took us to a Reenacting village in Ohio where we shared in the Christmas customs of long ago years, which were very simple.
