Think a moment about your participation as a Beta Sigma Phi. What is it you do as a member that brings you your greatest joy, happiness and reward?
PARTICIPATION IS THE KEY TO THE SECRET OF BETA SIGMA PHI. BE ACTIVE IN ALL AFFAIRS. JOIN IN AT ALL TIMES, IN ALL WAYS. THIS IS YOUR GUARANTEE THAT MEMBERSHIP WILL GIVE YOU ALL YOU EXPECTED OF IT.

You've all heard that old saying: "What you put into it is what you'll get out of it!" This is just as true in Beta Sigma Phi as in all of life.

A year ago last June a member at the NW Regional Convention in Spokane, WA told me she came to the convention so she could decide whether or not to go Member at Large. She was seriously considering dropping her membership.
She'd been in close to 20 years. but things in her life were changing and Beta Sigma Phi just didn't seem to be giving her what it once had.
She came to the convention and looked around. What stood out was how everyone was having a good time; there was a feeling of excitement, enthusiasm, laughter. Sisterhood, fun. sharing! She noticed how the hostessing members had made everything so special for everyone. And the one characteristic was . . . the members at the convention were participating in it! She thought about her situation in her own chapter and realized at that moment what had been missing. Because her personal life had undergone changes, she had quit participating in Beta Sigma Phi as she once had. She assured me she was going to go back home and start doing all she could in chapter once again. The story doesn't end there . . .
Last June, Bill & I were at the Oregon State Convention in Eugene. Guess who was there? This same member came over to where I was sitting and asked if I had remembered our discussion the year before. She said, "I lust wanted you to know I kept my word. I went home, participated as much as I could and enjoyed the best year I've ever had as a Beta Sigma Phi!"

It's a choice we make.

"Wherever there is a SERVICE TO RENDER, a LONELY HEART TO BEFRIEND, A LOVELY IDEAL TO EMBRACE .. there, as a Beta Sigma Phi, you will belong." Those are the favorite words of our Founder. He was speaking of PARTICIPATION!

Mr. Ross said something else: "TWO ELEMENTS SEEM NECESSARY TO BE RICH IN LIFE. ONE IS TO LOVE PEOPLE & THE OTHER IS TO BE AN ACTOR IN SOME GOOD PART OF LIFE INSTEAD OF A SPECTATOR."

In order to complete our Quilt of Friendship, we must continue to piece it together, participating as much as we can as we stitch our priceless golden threads. . .
