Toga Party

A toga party can be one of the most creative parties you will ever have. Ancient Greece was a time of beauty and of wonderful tales. Have your guests dress up in a toga (white or pastel colored sheets make great togas) and sandals. When they arrive, give them a mythological name such as: Athena, Aphrodite, Venus, Daphne, Minerva, Diana, Etc. (Don't forget Diotima!) Here are some other ideas that might help your toga party be unforgettable.

DECORATIONS
Decorations for this party can be very simple. Just supply plenty of plants or flowers for the outdoor look. Put plants around a kiddie pool to serve as a pond. Use white scroll planters, plant urns, and columns of any kind. Ivy is the plant of friendship, so use it and surround it with miniature white lights.

The food table can be a white sheet covered with green paper leaves, ivy, grapes, real or artificial; scrolls, urns and so forth.

ACTIVITIES
A simple activity would be to make laurel wreaths for everyone. You can purchase the supplies to do this at any hobby, craft or floral store that sells artificial flowers. Some people may wish to paint their leaves; you may want those supplies also.

On the wilder side, you could make a game out of one of the many mythological tales. Pin The Eye On the Cyclops, or Pin The Wing On The Pegasus. Just be creative and have fun!

PARTY FAVORS
I'm sure not many of your guests have gone to a party and received a Pandora's Box! Diverse from the fable, this Pandora's Box will contain a gift. You can get some small colorful boxes at a party supply store and color them anyway you wish. Place the gift of your choice in ONE box, leave the others empty or maybe enclose a piece of candy.

REFRESHMENTS
A platter with luscious fruit (make sure you have plenty of grapes) and cheeses, topped off with some dry wine - Ambrosia! And of course no party is complete without pizza! Following is a pizza recipe for you.

Greek-Style Pizza

Crust
1 package active dry yeast
1 cup warm water (105 - 115°)
2-½ cups all-purpose flour
1 teaspoon sugar
1 teaspoon salt

Dissolve yeast in warm water in 2½-quart bowl.
Stir in remaining ingredients; beat vigorously 20 strokes.
Let rest 5 minutes.
With floured fingers, press dough in greased cookie sheet.

Pizza Sauce
1 cup shredded Kasseri or mozzarella cheese
1 10 oz. package frozen chopped spinach, thawed and squeezed dry
½ pound ground lamb
1 Tablespoon snipped fresh oregano leaves or 1 teaspoon dried oregano leaves
1 medium tomato, chopped
½ cup crumbled feta cheese
½ cup Greek or ripe olives, cut up
Place oven rack in lowest position of oven. Heat oven to 425°. Prepare crust.
Sprinkle remaining ingredients evenly over top to within ½ inch of edge.
Bake on lowest oven rack until crust is golden brown, 24-30 minutes.
Drizzle with 1 Tablespoon olive oil, if desired.

INVITATIONS AND NAMETAGS
An appropriate invitation of the times would be a scroll, but since you cannot send a scroll through the mail, try cutting the invitations into one of the shapes below. Suggestion: You might also use these ideas for nametags. If you like the idea of a scroll, try delivering them yourself or asking members in your chapter to do so.

Remember to put date, time, exact place and address, and the name of the hostess on the invitation. DO NOT include an RSVP-call each invited guest personally!!!
