FRIENDSHIP PLEDGE

Candle Ceremony

(Members could stand in a circle with lighted candles of any or various colored candles.)

I pledge myself. . .
To the friendship and understanding. . .
Which links all our sisters together like a chain. . .
I uphold our purposes and ideals. . .
To be kind, thoughtful, helpful and useful. . .
To all my sisters. . .
As well as to all mankind. . .
As we join hand to hand. . .
May the ties which bind us. . .
Be strengthened by our gathering here. . .
And may our lives be the richer for having been together. . .

For:

"Friendship needs no symbols. . .
Or vow to make it whole. . .
It's just a sacred covenant. . .
That's locked within the soul. . .
It knows no creed nor station. . .
Or thought of gain or fame. . .
For what it does is sacred. . .
And is done in Friendship's name."

You can adapt this candle ceremony (this is not a ritual) to just about any event or occasion where you wish to celebrate Friendship. Perhaps this could be used at Beginning Day, or when a member moves away; at a rush party where the theme is 'candles', your chapter's birthday party, Preferential Teas, before or after the Preceptor Attribute Ritual, etc. Use your imagination. Sky's the limit on what could be done with this!
